Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide — but when detected early, survival rates are extremely high.
That’s why every year, October turns pink as part of the global Pink October (Octobre Rose) campaign to promote breast cancer awareness, screening, and support.

In Qatar, breast cancer accounts for nearly one-third of all cancer cases among women. Many of these cases are detected too late — not because symptoms weren’t present, but because women didn’t know when or how to get checked.
Early detection through regular clinical breast exams, mammograms, and self-examinations can save lives. It allows for:

When Should You Get Checked?
According to the American Cancer Society and Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health:
- Women aged 40+ should get a mammogram every 1–2 years
- Younger women with a family history may need earlier screening
- All women should perform monthly self-exams, ideally a few days after their menstrual cycle
How to Do a Self-Breast Exam
- Look in the mirror for any changes in shape, size, or skin texture
- Raise your arms and check for dimpling or nipple changes
- Use 3 fingers to gently press in circular motions while lying down or in the shower
- Feel the entire breast, including the armpit area
- Report any lumps, pain, or changes to your doctor
